Tutoring & Academic Support
Who are the tutors?
- Peer tutors are Cincinnati State students who have earned an “A” or “B” in courses they tutor, and recommended by a faculty member to serve as a tutor.
Students who are interested in becoming tutors can pick up an application form in the Tutoring Center.
- Faculty members also serve as tutors for some courses.
How can I register for a tutor?
Sign into Blackboard, and click on the Starfish tab. Next, go to My Success Network, and click on Schedule Appointment. All tutoring appointments must be scheduled 24 hours in advance, and are weekly appointments.
In what subjects is tutoring offered?
The Starfish link will indicate the courses that have tutors available each semester.
What kind of help do tutors give?
Tutors are committed to helping students achieve academic success. They will answer questions and explain concepts, but will not do the tutored student’s homework.
The student who is working with a tutor must attend class regularly, read the textbook, be prepared for tutoring sessions, have relevant questions, and complete all homework assignments. These efforts will help achieve academic success.
How often can I see my tutor?
Student can schedule a recurring weekly appointment for one or two courses. Walk-In tutoring does not require a scheduled appointments.
When is tutoring available each semester?
Tutoring is offered from Week 2 to Week 14 of each semester.
What if I can not make a tutoring session?
If you can’t attend your scheduled tutoring session, you must notify the Success Center at (513) 569-1614 at least 24 hours before the scheduled session. Failure to cancel your appointment could mean you will lose your tutoring services for the semester.
