Surgical Technology students earned 100% pass rate on certification exam

Cincinnati State’s Surgical Technology (ST) students participated in the annual “Scrub Bowl” competition held during a meeting of the Kentucky State Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technology on April 12 and 13, 2024.

Participating students included (photo front row, from left) Lindsey Couch, Annie Kroeger, Allison Barnell, Makenna Black, and Prof. LaVon Moore (back row) Sasha Gooden, Zion Robinson, Maria Laugle, Hannah Wade, Bethany Osborn, Kylee Draughn, Taylor Pendergast, and Kenya Dudley.

In the Scrub Bowl event, students must answer a series of questions similar to those asked on the national exam for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential. Students also could attend a review session to help them prepare for the competition and the exam.

Although the Cincinnati State team did not win the Scrub Bowl trophy this year, the program achieved a 100% pass rate for the CST exam– all 14 of the 2024 graduates earned the CST designation.

Surgical Technology Program Chair LaVon Moore and faculty member Deb Schumate accompanied the participating students to the April event.
