High school students are learning about manufacturing careers in Workforce Development Center program
High school seniors from the Grant County Career Center are learning about career opportunities in manufacturing and industrial maintenance through a 10-week class offered at Cincinnati State’s Workforce Development Center (WDC).
The program is sponsored through a grant administered by Easter Seals of Greater Cincinnati.
The class started Jan. 13, 2023, and meets for 6 hours each week. The 10 students participating in the course are gaining knowledge and some hands-on experience with pneumatics, machine drives, basic electrical skills, motors, and programming.
In addition, the students will tour area manufacturing and industrial plants to see “real world” applications of the concepts they are studying. Tour sites include the Metropolitan Sewer District and Makino, where the students will also learn the basics of using cutting tools.
Jason Hendrickson, WDC Assistant Business Manager for Industrial Maintenance, said the program goal is to introduce the high school students to options in Greater Cincinnati, and “get them excited about careers in manufacturing.”
