Hamilton County Commissioners celebrated the opening of new CS Nursing Skills Lab
All three members of Hamilton County’s Board of Commissioners visited Cincinnati State on October 31, 2024, to officially open the College’s new Nursing Skills Lab that was made possible by funds from a $1.5 million grant from the county.
The new lab, in Rooms 266-270 in the Main Building, is part of efforts to expand the number of skilled nurses in the Greater Cincinnati area.
County Commission President Alicia Reece said the event was a “glorious day” that celebrated “moving from an idea to action to results” and demonstrates how Cincinnati State “gets people ready to go” to fill in-demand jobs in the region.
Commission Vice President Denise Driehaus said Cincinnati State is “a great partner with the county” and has the expertise to use the grant funds effectively to provide “affordable and accessible” educational opportunities.
Commissioner Stephanie Dumas praised the College for forming partnerships with the county and with other organizations that “expand opportunities for success” for students and help diversify the nursing workforce.
Other speakers at the event, which was covered by several local TV stations, included Cincinnati State President Monica Posey, Board of Trustees Chair John Silverman, Dean of Health & Public Safety Dr. Bonnie Smith, and Erica Drake, a Nursing student who described her career journey and the assistance provided by scholarship funds from the grant. Dr. Janice Lockett, Chair of the RN (associate degree) Nursing program was recognized also.
The grant project is supported, in whole or in part, by Federal award number 21.027 awarded to Hamilton County, Ohio, by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
