Co-op student is on the front lines fighting the pandemic

During her cooperative education assignment at The Christ Hospital Clinical Laboratory, Cincinnati State Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) student Lindsay Murphy has played a key role in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the photo above, Lindsay is performing an antibody test for COVID-19 on a patient sample, using an instrument called the Abbott Architect.

Lindsay has worked 16 hours a week at the hospital lab as a co-op. She graduates at the end of Spring Semester, and then will start a full-time job at The Christ Hospital as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

This summer, Lindsay will sit for the Board of Certification Examination given by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

At the hospital, she has worked in all laboratory departments, including Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, and Microbiology, and is currently training in Immunohematology (Blood Bank).

Lindsay said, “I have really enjoyed my co-op experience. I feel it has made the transition from school to work easier than what it would have been otherwise.”

MLT Program Chair Kellee Fields said, “Medical laboratory technicians play a vital role in preventing and treating diseases by performing scientific testing.”

“We’re proud to see our students and graduates like Lindsay in the forefront of serving our community and fighting the COVID-19 pandemic,” Kellee added.
