Cincinnati State to host summit for high school students July 1-3
High school students from the TRIO Upward Bound program at Cincinnati State will participate in a three-
day “Student Leadership Summit” July 1-3.
The program will focus on cyber-bullying. Participants will define the topic, debate whether it is (or should
be) a crime, and then meet in teams to try to develop strategies for countering cyber-bullying. Solutions
proposed by student teams will be presented during the final sessions of the program July 3.
The Student Leadership Summit will open at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 1 in the ATLC Auditorium on the Clifton
Campus with presentations by Mark Romito from AT&T, which is sponsoring the event, and a keynote
address by State Rep. Denise Driehaus, who represents District 31 (which includes the Cincinnati State
Clifton campus). Rep. Driehaus currently serves as ranking member of the Economic Development and
Regulatory Reform Committee and is a member of the Finance and Appropriations Committee, Agriculture and Development Finance Subcommittee, and Education Committee.
The TRIO Upward Bound program serves low-income and first-generation college bound students. The
summer program at Cincinnati State includes activities designed to promote study skills, financial aid
awareness and academic readiness. The Student Leadership Summit is a partnership involved Project
GRAD and other high schools in Greater Cincinnati. As many as 200 students are expected to attend this year’s summit.
