President Owens donates bonus toward raise for employees

Cincinnati State employees who are not members of a bargaining unit will get a 1.25 percent pay raise,
thanks in part to a decision by President Owens to redirect what would have been his performance bonus
for 2013-14.

Prior to his annual performance evaluation by the Board of Trustees in October, President Owens asked
that he not be awarded any bonus for the contract year ending Aug. 31, 2014, and that any such award
instead be directed toward providing a 1.25 percent increase in the rate of compensation for non-union
employees at Cincinnati State. Such employees have not had a raise in the past two years.

At its Oct. 28 meeting, a unanimous Board of Trustees, citing Dr. Owens’ request, approved allocating
$50,000 that would have been awarded as a bonus to be used toward providing a 1.25% increase in the
rate of compensation of non-union employees of the College.

This week, the college announced that 152 full-time, non-bargaining unit employees will receive the
1.25% raise after their own annual performance reviews are completed, retroactive to Nov. 1, 2014.

“Dr. Owens continues to exceed the Board’s expectations,” said Cathy Crain, chair of the Board of
Trustees. “We have an incredible leader in Dr. Owens, and his latest gesture is just one of the countless
things that he does for the College and its employees and students,” she said.

Dr. Owens began his service as Cincinnati State president on Sept. 1, 2010.
