Cincinnati State Middletown offers new scholarships for 2015 Fall Semester
Cincinnati State is offering a new round of scholarships for students at its Middletown campus for the 2015 Fall Semester.
The scholarships cover five categories, and each is worth up to $750 per semester and a total of $3,000 over two academic years. When coupled with Pell Grants and other types of financial aid, college officials said, the scholarships in many cases should be enough to allow students to take classes full-time at the Middletown campus and pay for books and fees without incurring debt or out-of pocket expenses.
“We’re trying to show that if students are willing to put in the work, we can remove money as a barrier to their education,” said Cincinnati State President O’dell M. Owens. “Our doors are open.”
With the help of its partner in the Middletown campus, Higher Education Partners, Cincinnati State has established a pool of scholarship funds that will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to applicants in these categories:
- Get Back to School Scholarship, for those who graduated from high school between 2010 and 2015
- GED Scholarship, for 2010-15 graduates
- Home School Scholarship, for 2010-15 graduates
- Older and Wiser Scholarship, for adults age 24 and older
- Second Chance Scholarship, for formerly incarcerated or convicted adults
Among the eligibility requirements for these scholarships:
- An applicant must be a new student starting in the 2015 Fall Semester and enrolled in a Middletown campus certificate or associate degree program, and must register for classes no later than Aug. 14.
- The applicant must complete the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), and agree to apply any other grants and scholarships received toward tuition, fees and books before using the specific Middletown campus scholarship.
- Students must maintain good academic standing as defined by Cincinnati State (a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
Students must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours to receive the full scholarship benefits of $750 per semester. Upon successful completion of the 2015 Fall Semester, students will be able to use their scholarship for the 2016 Spring or Summer semesters, and then for up to two years thereafter.
To celebrate these new scholarships, the Cincinnati State Middletown campus will host a free community festival on July 9 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Robert “Sonny” Hill Community Center, 800 Lafayette Ave., Middletown. The family-friendly event will include free food and beverages and games for children. Volunteers from Faith United Church in Middletown will prepare fish and chips for the event.
Students will be able to apply for the scholarships at the July 9 event. Applications will also be available to those who stop by the Cincinnati State Middletown campus at 1 North Main Street (45042). Online applications are not available. For more information please call (513) 217-3700.
