Cincinnati State Sociology Instructor Releases Book
With help from Cincinnati State faculty and students, Dr. Tambura Omoiele, an adjunct instructor at Cincinnati State in sociology, has published her first children’s book, “A Gift for Daddy Gone Wrong!”
The story is written for children age 3 to 7 to help them understand that petty theft is a serious offense with consequences.
Dr. Omoiele said she believes it is never too early to discuss children’s behaviors that are against the law or morally wrong. “Sometimes children don’t know that what they are doing is wrong, and need to be taught,” Dr. Omoiele said. “This book was meant to help parents do that in an entertaining and loving way.”
Dr. Omoiele spent two years bringing her children’s book to publication and worked collaboratively with several people within the Cincinnati State community. Pam Ecker, Professor of Technical and Professional Communication, copyedited the book. Early Childhood Education Program Chair Sandra Owen provided a forward. Co-op Coordinator Andi Feld recommended an international student (and now a Cincinnati State graduate), Josko Chavez, to illustrate the work.
Mr. Chavez is now employed by Ameritas as a multi-media specialist in marketing. He holds a degree in fine arts from his native Peru, and received his Associate of Applied Science degree in Audio/Video Production from Cincinnati State last summer. The book is also Josko’s first published work.
Dr. Omoiele has submitted the book to several children’s literature award competitions and also sent a copy to First Lady Michelle Obama for her children’s reading program.
Dr. Omoiele received all of her post-secondary education in Ohio. She holds a BA degree from Wright State University in Sociology, an MS degree from Xavier University in Criminal Justice and a doctoral degree from Union Institute and University in Sociology.
