Overview
The Nurse Aide Training Certificate program, which is approved by the Ohio Department of Health, provides the skills needed to care for residents in a long-term care facility. These skills include Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and lifting safely without injury to self or residents.
Students practice these skills in the lab (a simulated patient room) and then apply the skills during their clinical rotation in a long-term care facility, with guidance from RN instructors.
The Nurse Aide Training Certificate is offered at the Cincinnati State Clifton campus and the Evendale campus (Workforce Development Center).
After successful completion of the 75-hour certificate program, students are eligible to take the Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation offered by the Ohio Department of Health to become a State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA). After passing the exam, the student will be placed on the Nurse Aide Registry.
Requirements for admitted students include:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- FBI and BCI background checks are required.
- Valid two-step TB test results must be presented.
- A social security card with the student’s correct name and a state picture ID with correct information must be presented on the first day of class and at the time of state testing.
- Books are required on the first day of class.
- Students must meet a strict attendance policy, as required by the Ohio Department of Health.
- Students must wear hunter green scrubs as their required uniform during clinical experiences in a long-term care facility.
- A laptop computer is required.

Accreditation
The Nurse Aide Training Certificate program is approved by the Ohio Department of Health.
Credentialing: Upon successful completion of the certificate program, students are eligible to take the Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation exam offered by the Ohio Department of Health to become a State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA).

Employment of State Tested Nurse Aides (STNAs) and Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) is projected to grow 4 percent through 2032, as fast as the average for all occupations. In Ohio, over 7,000 nursing aides are projected to be needed each year through 2028. Because of the growing elderly population, many nurse aides are needed in long-term care facilities, hospitals, and in home health. Employers will require a criminal background check and a drug test.

Nurse Aide Training Certificate (NATC)
- Program Prerequisites: Must be at least 16 years old. To be admitted to this program, students must submit an application including a 2-step TB test. The 2-step TB test must be completed no more than 12 months prior to the semester the student is enrolled in MCH 130. A 12th grade or higher reading level is recommended.
