This apprenticeship is through a corporate-led partnership. Students in this program must be sponsored by an established healthcare employer.
This program is designed to introduce students to the healthcare field and the duties, attributes, and responsibilities of the medical assistant. Students will gain an understanding of healthcare practice, medical law and ethics, infection control, and administrative and clinical duties. Examples of administrative duties learned include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Example clinical duties learned include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by a physician.
After completion of the program: Upon successful completion of the certificate program, students are eligible to sit for a national certification exam to obtain their CCMA through NHA. Students will receive a certificate from Cincinnati State for completion of the Medical Assisting Apprenticeship program. Receive a certificate of completion of the apprenticeship program with the U.S. Department of Labor.
