Cincinnati State trustees confirm Dr. Monica Posey as Cincinnati State’s interim president

The Cincinnati State Board of Trustees voted unanimously today to confirm the appointment of Dr. Monica Posey, the college’s current Provost as interim president. This follows the resignation of Dr. O’dell Owens last Wednesday after he accepted a new position as the Medical Director of the Cincinnati Board of Health.
After thanking the board for bestowing this honor, Dr. Posey made a few remarks to the audience ending with “I am committed to serving our college community and most importantly, our students. I am confident that we will work together as a team, such that the Board and the community will hear about more great accomplishments from Cincinnati State in the future.”
Dr. Monica J. Posey has served the College for 23 years. Her career at Cincinnati State began in 1992, and includes positions as Assistant Dean, Director of Institutional Research & Planning, Academic Vice President and most recently Provost. Prior to joining Cincinnati State, Dr. Posey worked at the University of Cincinnati as Assistant Director of Career Development and for the AT&T Company in Cincinnati and New Jersey in market research, project management and engineering. During much of this time she also taught Statistics as an adjunct instructor at UC.
Dr. Posey’s professional activities include serving on the boards of the Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative and Minorities in Mathematics, Science & Engineering. She is a graduate of the Cincinnati U.S.A. Regional Chamber Leadership Cincinnati Class of 2010. Her professional recognitions include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Convene for the Dream award, the Leading Women of Cincinnati award, the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati Career Woman of Achievement award, and the UC College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services Distinguished Alumni award.
Dr. Posey is a member of the First Ladies Health Initiative and also volunteers as a math tutor at Cincinnati State and elsewhere in the Greater Cincinnati area. She holds the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do Karate.
She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with an EdD in Educational Foundations in 1999. In addition, Dr. Posey completed all the coursework toward a PhD in Quantitative Analysis. She holds an MBA from The Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BS from Cornell University. In 2003, she completed the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management.
She and her husband, Rev. Dr. Michael J. Posey, live in Green Township. Michael Posey is Presiding Elder of the Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati District of the AME Zion Church, pastor of Greater St. John and St. Mark AME Zion churches, a P&G retiree, 9th Degree Black Belt in karate and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology at UC. They have one daughter, Marchelle, a successful educator as well, and three grandchildren.
“We’re delighted that Dr. Posey has taken this role at the college. The Board of Trustees could not be more proud of every single person at the college during this time of transition”, said Board Chair Cathy Crain.
