The Cincinnati State men's soccer team won the 2009 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference championship in convincing fashion.

The Surge ended conference play Oct. 18 with a 7-1 victory over Cuyahoga Community College.

The win gave Cincinnati State a perfect 6-0-0 record in the OCCAC and an overall record of 13-2-1.

It also helped seal Cincinnati State’s standing in the Top 20 national rankings among junior college soccer programs. In the National Junior College Athletic Association poll, Cincinnati State is currently ranked No. 18. In the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, the team is ranked No. 11.

Cincinnati State has two regular season matches left to play – home games at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 against Kellogg at the Walnut Hills High School field and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25 against Jackson at the Seven Hills High School field.

Regardless of the outcome of those games, the Surge have qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament. Cincinnati State will begin the regional round on Saturday, Oct. 31 against Ancilla College in a game that will be played in Cleveland. In the first week of the season, Cincinnati State won at Ancilla, 4-2.

If the men's team wins the regional tournament round on November 1, Cincinnati State will host the one-game district match on Saturday, Nov. 7.

In conference play, Cincinnati State has been dominant on both offensive and defensive aspects of the game. The team allowed only three goals in six OCCAC games while scoring 21 goals.
