Cincinnati State is a great place to jumpstart your career, change professions, and more. Sometimes, taking that first step is often the hardest. Success in today’s workplace requires making choices and taking chances, and a good education can give you more choices and enhance your chances for success.

At Cincinnati State, we strive to give you the flexibility you need to upgrade your skills, work toward a degree, or develop new interests. Flexible scheduling, day, evening, and weekend opportunities all are available. In addition, you can complete a bachelor’s degree through Wilmington College, Franklin University, Lindsey Wilson College, or Tiffin University and not leave the campus.

Do you want to take a class or two?

If yes, then you must simply complete a “Non-Degree” form and follow the instructions on it. You can access the form here.

If you are looking for training classes in emergency preparedness and HAZMAT, industrial training, professional and managerial training, or training for healthcare certifications, check out the courses available at the Workforce Development Center (WDC). WDC provides an array of training programs for non-profits, companies, public sector organizations, and individuals.

Do you want to earn an associate’s degree or certificate?

If yes, then you must be admitted to the College before you can begin taking classes at Cincinnati State. We’re here to help make your admission process as smooth as possible.

Some questions for you

First, please answer a few questions:

• Have you previously attended Cincinnati State? If yes, then you are considered a “returning student” and should follow the directions for returning students. 
• Are you transferring from another college or university? If yes, please follow the admission process for transfer students.
• Have you never attended Cincinnati State before, either to follow a degree or certificate program (“degree-seeking”) or to take one or more classes (“non-degree-seeking”)? If yes, then you are considered to be a first-time student. If you are a high school graduate or have a high school equivalence (GED), you are eligible for admission. Below are the steps to take before you can begin classes.

Take these three easy steps for admission to Cincinnati State:

1. Submit an online Application for Admission. There is no application fee. A $10 nonrefundable admission fee will be billed at your first registration. Remember--apply early!
2. Request that your high school guidance counselor or college registrar’s office send high school and college transcripts (if applicable) directly to Cincinnati State, Office of Admission Records. If you have a GED, send a copy of the original transcript of GED scores to the Office of Admission Records. Hand-carried transcripts are not accepted.
3. If you have previous college experience and would like to have credit transferred, have an official transcript sent to the Office of Admission from each college or university attended and for which you would like to have credit transferred to Cincinnati State. Please note that Cincinnati State cannot conduct an official evaluation of your transcript until you have been fully admitted and have spoken with your advisor. Note that if you are a college graduate, you do not need to have your high school transcript mailed to Cincinnati State. Instead you can simply have an official copy of your college transcript mailed to the college.
4. Take the ACT COMPASS® placement test for mathematics, writing, and reading. This is required of all new students who are seeking a degree or certificate. The test results assist your advisors in helping you succeed. Find out more about COMPASS testing at Cincinnati State.
   
   If you have already taken college courses in algebra and/or in English and received a grade of “C” or better, you may qualify to waive part or all of the COMPASS test. Submit a COMPASS test waiver, and your request will be evaluated once your application is complete. If you have taken the COMPASS test at another institution, please bring your scores to the COMPASS lab at Cincinnati State for evaluation.

A special Get There session for the culinary arts is held the first Thursday of the month at 11 am and 6 pm. We’d appreciate it if you’d let us know you’re coming, but it’s not required.
